Google to take over the Internet?

I found this article interesting. It's something I've always believed in
the back of my mind for a while now... Slowly they are taking over the
Internet, which I don't think is a bad thing at the moment since Google
still seem to be a 'do good not evil' company... But what is scary is if
the company changed hands/directions and it became a do evil company,
could screw us up...

Xbox 360 Live Gold

So I got an Xbox360 recently, got my 1 month free Xbox Live, thought this isn't bad, but $100 for the 12 month subscription with a headset i don't really want and a few MS points is a bit expensive. Looked on Ebay, found some original Xbox Live kits/subscription cards going... Picked one up for $30AUD.... works with Xbox 360 Live as well... much better value.

Download it from MS website, you may need the LegitControlCheck.dll, but when you try to install it, it has its own check. So extract the install file with WinRar, then you need to replace 'legitlib.dll' with a cracked version. Google is your friend. Run setup.....

Smart MP3 Renamer

Found this program about a month or so ago, i'd been renaming my MP3's manually for years, no idea why i didn't think to search for something like this sooner, such a great program, best used on albums. Grabs all the track names/lengths from freedb and compares them to yours, you can tell it to write ID3 tags as well, about 1/4 way through neatening up my MP3 Collection. Only problem is it's not free. Only a 30 day trial then forces you to buy it so i had a bit of a sniff around, and use Install Watch Pro ;) Found if i deleted this registry key, the time trial reset. :)

Found a nice free program (gotta love free programs) that takes a snapshot of your system/files/registry/ini files then lets you install a program, then takes another snapshot and see what changed, then lists it in an easy to read/use/sortable list. Works pretty well, easy to use.

To reset the password, perform the following steps:

1. Open the Windows Registry.
2. Back up the Windows system registry before attempting to modify it. for more information refer to http://kb.trendmicro.com/solutions/search/main/search/solutionDetail.asp? solutionID=1939
3. Open the registry editor and on the left pane, go to this registry key: HKLM\Software\TrendMicro\ServerProtect\CurrentVersion\Agent
4. On the right pane, locate the AgentPassword key.
5. Double-click the AgentPassword key and then delete the contents of the value data field - leaving it blank.
6. Close the registry and start the SPNT Management Console.
7. Log on using "VPROTECT" as the password (without the quotes). This will be the new password until you change it using the ServerProtect Management Console.

So the idea of this blog is really just for me to keep notes on random technical (IT related) stuff i find useful and forget. I come back here, search and find the notes i made or links i posted. If it helps other people as well, bonus, if not .......

For what it's worth, i'm a system admin, looking after all sorts, windows servers, unix (freebsd) servers, xp desktops, cisco networks, you get the idea.
